A Decade of Celebrating Movement and Sport with European Week of Sport!

On 23rd September, the 10th European Week of Sport commenced with a spectacular start in Budapest, Hungary. Once again, we witnessed diverse participants, including people of all ages and backgrounds from every corner of Europe, coming together to partake in thousands of sporting events and activities until 30th September, all united by their love for sport and physical activity.

For the fourth consecutive year, Danmark Motionsuge (Denmark’s Motion Week) extended the joy of the Danish people by offering a wide range of sports and physical activities across Denmark until 15th October. This year, the event saw a record-breaking 7300 events registered, a testament to its success in engaging the Danish community.

TEAM FRED – TENNIS AND PADEL FOR ALL

Where?  Tennis and padel clubs around Denmark

When? 

Virum Sorgenfri Tennisklub – 23rd – 30th September, up to 15th October

Who?  DGI Tennis and Dansk Tennis Forbund (Danish Tennis Federarion)

What?  Team Fred is a tennis and padel program for children with special needs (autism, ADHD, mental disorders). It was initiated by Mette Rytsel at the Virum-Sorgenfri Tennisklub in 2018 and with the support of DGI Tennis and Dansk Tennis Forbund spread to other clubs around Denmark.

GIRL POWER REFUGEE SPORTS AND FUN FESTIVAL

Where?  Sandholm Refugee Center

When?   23rd – 30th September, up to 15th October

Who?  Girl Power Organisation

What?  For the fourth year in a row as part of the European Week of Sport Denmark Girl Power Organisation and the Ambassador of the European Week of Sport Denmark Khalida Popal are hosting a sports festival with fun games and activities, such as football, basketball and fitness for refugees and asylum seekers to encourage them to be physically active and integrate into the local community through sport. The festival is organised in collaboration with Street Sports organisations and the Red Cross and aims to celebrate togetherness and unity and promote a healthy lifestyle.

FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE

Where?  Copenhagen, start in front of Next House Copenhagen

When?  20th September 2024

Who?  Friday Night Skate Copenhagen

What?  Friday Night Skate is a rollerskating event that gives you an opportunity to enjoy the charm of the city at twilight on wheels. It is organised on selected Friday evenings during the summer season (April – September). Everyone can participate, the event is free of charge and there is no need to sign up to participate. The turnout was two times more than the previous year, with 675 skaters.

HALLOWEEN RUN

Who?  DGI Storkøbenhavn (DGI Greater Copenhagen) in collaboration with Rødovre Municipality and Rødovre AC

What?  When darkness falls and the creatures of the night come out, it's time to set out on Rødovre's ‘hyggelig’ and slightly spooky Halloween run. Take your children, family members and friends to run or walk a route full of surprises – you can choose between 1 and 4 km distances. There is a prize for the best dressed runners!

Who?  Dansk Skoleidræt (Danish School Sport Federation)

What?  Danish School Sport Day is a celebration of movement and fun for school children with over 40 years tradition! 521 Danish schools are registered so far and will hold different activation events to promote physical activity and active lifestyle.

ARBEJDSPLADSERNES MOTIONSUGE (NATIONAL WORKPLACE ACTIVITY WEEK) and EMPLOYEE WELLBEING CONFERENCE

Who?  Dansk Firmaidrætsforbund (Danish Federation for Company Sport)

What?  Inspired by the idea of the Danish School Sport Day, the National Workplace Activity Day has taken place since 2015. Multiple workplaces around the country organise activation events and competitions among colleagues. Since 2022 the “Day” is converted into a “Week” to prolong the joy of moving together. This year, an annual event that promotes sport and physical activity across Europe was also organised. Conference on strategic health planning in international companies held at Tivoli hotel together with ISCA - International Sport and Culture Association, European Federation For Company Sport - EFCS and the European Week of Sport.

WE WALK

Who?  Bevæg Dig For Livet (Move for Life), DGI and Dansk Atletik (Danish Athletics Federation)

What?  An initiative aiming to inspire Danes to move around together - with family, friends, neighbours or co-workers. The goal is to combat sedentary ways of life and loneliness and, as a result, to improve physical and mental health. Everyone can organise a walk in own local community.

WE RUN

Where?  All around Denmark

When?  7-13 October 2024

Who?  DGI

What?  We Run is a running campaign that celebrates the community and social running. It aims to increase awareness of the benefits of running and showcase all the running clubs and communities you can join to establish a running routine. The campaign will also show that with only a few efforts you can easily create your own small running community in the neighbourhood, at work or at the fitness studio. We Run is for everyone who wants to meet and run with others and experience the cohesion that arises when you are together for a common interest.

What?  The world team gymnasts  are all active association members who, through action and dialogue, inspire everyone, regardless of sport and level, to pursue their goals and dreams. 

The DGI World Team helps to develop and set new standards for gymnastics in local sports associations all over Denmark - and in the rest of the world.

PANNA EVENTS

Who?  Pannahouse

What?  Pannahouse is a cultural movement inspired by street football, which has become a reality after 3 boys, across completely different age groups, districts and ethnicities, have built a friendship based on the ball. After traveling around the world with the ball and creating bonds with people from different cultures, we had a need to share our experience, knowledge and great passion here in Denmark. Pannahouse organizes some events which can be hold for + 30 kids but also for 8+ kids. The size of the event doesn't really matter. What is the most important is that they enjoy themselves and play around with the ball. The purpose is that panna influences on them in a positive way.

What?  THE SPORTS MEETING celebrates sports for 24 hours - from 13 September at 16.00 to 14 September at 4 p.m. Aalborg's largest sports centre, GIGANTIUM, is filled with many free and exclusive activities, experiences and record attempts etc.
