#BeActive autumn in Denmark: European Week of Sport and Danmarks Motionsuge highlights!

The European Week of Sport begins today with the official opening in Prague, meaning that for the 8th time in a row millions of Europeans will come together to #BeActive and enjoy all kinds of free sporting activities. People in Denmark may consider themselves especially lucky since Danmarks Motionsuge (Denmark’s Exercise Week which joined forces with EWOS for the second time) will continue offering movement sessions and other sport for all events up until 16 October.

In this article we invite you to take a look at our short overview of the events happening in Denmark during European Week of Sport and Danmarks Motionsuge. You can choose an activity of your liking among more than 3700 events registered so far.

DAC ARKITEKTURLØB REFSHALEØEN 2022

Where?  Refshaleøen, Copenhagen

When?  25 September at 9:00

Who?  DGI Storkøbenhavn (DGI Greater Copenhagen) and Refshaleøens Ejendomsselskab

What?  Join the running tour which will take you around Refshaleøen on a completely new, unique route and let you enjoy the secret views of Refshaleøen as the route goes through buildings and areas where running is usually not allowed. You can run or walk at your own pace. There is no timing to finish the race, but plenty of time to enjoy the sights.

FODTENNISSPORTENS DAG (DAY OF FOOT-TENNIS)

Where?  Several foot-tennis clubs around Denmark

When?  26 September - 2 October 2022

Who?  Fodtennis Danmark (Danish Foot-Tennis Association)

What?  Days of Foot-Tennis aims to introduce you to a new sport art. At least 11 foot-tennis clubs around Denmark will offer open and free of charge come-and-try events for everyone over 15 years old who is interested in trying out the exciting combination of football and tennis.

FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE

Where?  Copenhagen

When?  30 September 2022 at 19:30

Who?  Friday Night Skate Copenhagen

What?  Friday Night Skate is a rollerskating event that gives you an opportunity to enjoy the charm of the city at twilight on wheels. It is organised on selected Friday evenings during the summer season (April – September). Everyone can participate, the event is free of charge and there is no need to sign up to participate. On 30 September the last tour of 2022 will take place as part of #BeActive Night and the European Week of Sport. Since Halloween is approaching, the race will have a specific theme: Horror Night with Lights. So don’t miss the occasion to dress up as mysterious creatures to add extra creepiness to the evening :D.

TEAM FRED – TENNIS AND PADEL FOR ALL

Where?  Five tennis and padel clubs in Denmark

Who?  DGI Tennis and Dansk Tennis Forbund (Danish Tennis Federarion)

What?  Team Fred is a tennis and padel program for children with special needs (autism, ADHD, mental disorders). It was initiated by Mette Rytsel at the Virum-Sorgenfri Tennisklub in 2018 and with the support of DGI Tennis and Dansk Tennis Forbund spread to other clubs around Denmark.

HALLOWEEN RUN

Who?  DGI Storkøbenhavn (DGI Greater Copenhagen) in collaboration with Rødovre Municipality and Rødovre AC

What?  When darkness falls and the creatures of the night come out, it's time to set out on Rødovre's ‘hyggelig’ and slightly spooky Halloween run. Take your children, family members and friends to run or walk a route full of surprises – you can choose between 1 and 4 km distances. There is a prize for the best dressed runners!

Who?  Dansk Skoleidræt (Danish School Sport Federation)

What?  Danish School Sport Day celebrates 40 years this year! 700 Danish schools are registered so far and will hold different activation events to celebrate the day of movement. You can find inspiration and materials here – this year you’re invited to explore the MOVEs of the last 4 decades. See the warm-up dance video presented by Dansk Skoleidræt in collaboration with the European Week of Sport.

ARBEJDSPLADSERNES MOTIONSUGE (NATIONAL WORKPLACE ACTIVITY WEEK)

Who?  Dansk Firmaidrætsforbund (Danish Federation for Company Sport)

What?  Inspired by the idea of the Danish School Sport Day, the National Workplace Activity Day has taken place since 2015. Multiple workplaces around the country organise activation events and competitions among colleagues. In 2022 the “Day” is converted into a “Week” to prolong the joy of moving together.

MARTIAL ARTS AND COMBAT SPORTS FOR ALL

Who?  DGI Kampidræt (DGI Combat Sports)

What?  During the Danmarks Motionsuge you have the opportunity to try out multiple styles of martial arts and combat sports, when the respective Danish clubs open their doors to everyone with a series of come-and-try events. Boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, kung-fu, jiu-jitsu, Thai boxing, karate, taekwon-do and fencing are just several of the martial arts you can test during the week.

WE WALK

Who?  Bevæg Dig For Livet (Move for Life), DGI and Dansk Atletik (Danish Athletics Federation)

What?  An initiative aiming to inspire Danes to move around together - with family, friends, neighbours or co-workers. The goal is to combat sedentary ways of life and loneliness and, as a result, to improve physical and mental health. Everyone can organise a walk in own local community.

When?  All year round

Who?  Dansk Vandrelaug (Danish Ramblers Association)

What?  A series of walks of different lengths and degrees of difficulty to promote hiking across beautiful Danish landscapes as a leisure activity beneficial for health take place all year round across Denmark.

SKYDESPORTENS DAG (SHOOTING SPORT DAY)

Where?  All around Denmark

When?  15 October 2022, 10:00-15:00

Who?  DGI Skydesport (DGI Shooting Sport)

What?  Shooting sport requires focus, concentration and calmness and mental balance. If you want to develop these qualities, you can join open come-and-try events in shooting sport and archery clubs around the country. For safety reasons, you are required to present an ID and health insurance card to participate.

GIRL POWER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY AND SPORTS FESTIVAL

Who?  Girl Power Organisation

What?  For the third year in a row as part of the European Week of Sport Denmark Girl Power Organisation is hosting a sports festival with fun games and activities, such as football, basketball and fitness for women and girls from different ethnic backgrounds living in Denmark to encourage them to be physically active and integrate into the local community through sport. Besides the festival, Girl Power Organisation has initiated the Leadership Academy to educate young enthusiasts from across Europe on the theories and practices of leadership, communication, self-development planning, discipline, inclusive coaching and safeguarding principles.
