Connecting children with special needs to club sport. Highlights from 2021: Team Fred

09/19/2022 By Maria Malyshkina, ISCA

Team Fred and the European Week of Sport Denmark (EWOS DK) are going hand-in-hand for the third year in a row. This tennis and padel training programme for neurodiverse children was initiated by Mette Rytsel at the Virum-Sorgenfri Tennisklub in 2018 and with the support of DGI Tennis spread to other clubs around Denmark.

We previously told the story about how this initiative activates kids with neurological conditions like autism and ADHD in the most suitable way by creating a comfort zone for them to #BeActive. If you are following our news regularly, you’d probably also know that Mette Rytsel – Team Fred founder, coach and organiser of social events at the Virum-Sorgenfri Tennis Club – was the nominee for the 2020 #BeActive Awards from Denmark in the Local Hero category.

Today we invite you to dive into the cosy (or hyggelig in Danish) vibe of a Team Fred event with a short video from one of the five Team Fred x EWOS DK events in 2021. Patrik Wozniacki from PadelGeek conducted a training session as a guest coach, and Philip Ørnø introduced and played the official Team Fred song (supported by Parasport Denmark).

Team Fred events are also taking place as part of the European Week of Sport Denmark this year. Stay tuned: follow our social media channels and don’t forget to #BeActive!
